Description
A member of The Hoods (wearing a red cloak, signaling he is a leader) and Payquyne’s father. He runs the betting side of the Arena of Vel’Therin Expanse and hangs at The Patio with his men.
He has been good to us — bounties, his manor to sleep in, advertising The Tail’s End during our dragon fight — but 10-Meeting Rithas > At The Patio changed how we read him.
What we know
- He is taking his men to Grumdur-Khaz to fight six dragons “before they get big”, and wants the dragon fighting gear we won for it
- V gave him that job. Roz caught him shrugging at an empty wall and cast See Invisibility; she was pressed against it, and Bruce waved at her
- He is skeptical that The Unknown even exists
- Yharov overheard him with The Piper at The South Tavern in 15-Joining Forces > Outside The South Tavern. Bruce said the Piper is one of The Horsemen; whether Bruce is one too is unclear. The Piper told him he “got his arena”, will get his war with The Silent Fist, and that Vel Rau’dan “will burn just as you wish”
- He is afraid of V: “you know what she is”
- He didn’t want to fight us. In 16-Killing The Piper Roz got him to agree to leave for 15,000 gold, and he took a few of his men with him. He later called that debt off. The rest stayed, paid by the Piper, and died
- In 17-In Theratinas Head > Bruce shows up he came to us bloodied: his men had turned on him during our fight with the Piper, for the Kill The Hoods Leader bounty. Roz’s Hold Person failed and he ran, but Yharov caught him. He said:
- He doesn’t want to fight us, we no longer owe him money, and he’s done working with V
- He gave the dragon armor from 10-Meeting Rithas > At the betting till to “Sir Dark”
- His ultimate goal is to destroy The Silent Fist
- We should go west, “somewhere warm”
- He won’t tell us one thing, a plan he shared with The Piper to stop V’s plan: “It may not happen if I don’t.” A chilling breeze blew as he said it
- Cal showed us one of his memories. In a dark alley, he asked the Piper to promise not to “end up like V, essentially freeing The Unknown”. A sharply dressed elf arrived and asked if everything was ready. They were trying to resurrect the elf with “the power of the dragons”, to “stop Drakhakar” and “end the cold freezes”. The elf wanted his Sun Blade and Frost Brand waiting for when he reawakens. “If we fail, those idiots will get their book back, those sloths will get their dragons, and it will all be up to Gale”
- Pushed to help us against V: “You think you know better than a god, than The Unknown, than legendary people that have been around for hundreds of years?” They were trying to “enhance a very, very powerful person”, and were going to have “a death knight by our side”
- He sent us to the third job on the job board of The Citadel of Vel Rau’dan in 10-Meeting Rithas > At the job board, calling it “intel” we might like. All three jobs there looked like diversions
Motivations
- Destroy The Silent Fist
- Finish his daughter Payquyne’s work. She was hunting the 12 Artifacts to hide them in the Feywild, the one place The Unknown never touched. He works with bad people (The Silent Fist, The Hag) to do it
- If V wants those dragons dead, we probably want them alive
