Summary

While anchored near The Twin Veins, Roz bargained with Asmodeus through Jimmothy to locate Thompson, agreeing to deliver a secret message to The Piper in exchange. The party tracked Thompson to his camp and spied on him arguing with V, who abandoned the sickly lycanthrope, claimed the artifact dagger The Stoneheart, and handed it off to Yharov before casting Maze on Roz. After Roz secretly passed Asmodeus’s message to The Piper and a rogue weretiger executed Thompson—freeing his mind-controlled followers—the group recovered important schematics from the camp and returned to Ferrar’s Airship. However, tragedy struck when Yharov handed Theratina the Coin of The Unknown, which instantly dissolved her into goo and teleported the party to the Dimensional Blue Arena. There, the massive shadow entity The Unknown instantly killed Avenj with Power Word Kill as a warning. Back on the airship, despite Roz and Yharov’s desperate attempts to offer their own lives to revive him, Avenj ultimately chose to pass on into the afterlife, leaving behind a final warning about the notebook with a sleeping face on its cover and sparking a dark, vengeful resolve in Theratina to destroy The Unknown.

Events

On Ferrar’s Airship

  • We wake up and make our way to the deck
  • We haven’t moved from The Twin Veins
    • Ferrar has been lingering the airship (presumably to hunt his brother)
  • Note: 12 days until the next full moon

A conversation with Jimmothy

  • Roz rolls a 21 to speak with Jimmothy
  • Jimmothy awakes
  • Roz has him go ask the other gods if they know where Thompson is
  • Another d100 (presumably to choose the god) roll yields an 81
  • The mouth shifts to a crooked beak and the eyes get big
  • In return for knowing our future/where to go, he requires us to “bring a message to someone”
    • “Those who you seek are in Grumdur-Khaz”
    • The name of the recipient is The Piper
    • We will “coincidentally” run into him if need be
  • “I can relate to you as my warlocks in The Council of the Cold Veil”
  • Roz agrees to his deal
  • Jimmothy returns as Roz berates him for bringing the demon
  • The face goes away
  • Roz knows that Thompson is south of Greythorne
  • Knowing what we know about The Piper, Yharov gets wax to fill our ears
  • We prepare to go find Thompson

At Thompson’s camp

  • On our way to Thompson’s Camp (a few miles to its south), we see Thompson’s Town
    • A town where thousands of his lycanthropes worship him
  • We arrive at his camp and Hoots scouts for us
  • Thompson is sickly on the bed with his missing hand
  • We see V by his side
  • There are a dozen or so lycanthropes here on guard
    • They are all on guard
  • The nearby stream stinks, meaning it is hard to detect from smell
  • We consider possibly having Roz and Yharov go in the camp in their own hybrid form

Inside the house

  • Theodore uses Clairvoyance to hear and see in the house
  • He sees the dagger from the book
  • Changing Clairvoyance to hearing, we hear V tell Thompson, “I’m done fixing your mistakes. Did you get Theratina?”
  • “No. I wish I did.”
  • V claims they are on a “crunch”
    • “The wars are about to begin”
    • “The land is about to freeze over”
    • “I don’t believe you deserve this knife anymore. It has corrupted you in a way you said it wouldn’t.”
    • “Now, I’m going to have some fun”
    • “If I find those individuals, I’m going to give this (knife) to them. See how fast they corrupt.”
  • She takes the knife and goes outside to the bridge

Confronting V

  • Roz turns into his hybrid form and goes to talk to V
  • She wants us to lick her hand in exchange for the blade for some reason
  • She casts Maze on Roz and banishes her
  • Yharov decides to lick her hand, covering her tongue in wax
    • She used Burning Hands to try to burn the wax off
    • He succeeds the save, but she thinks it worked
  • She places the knife in Yharov’s hand and slowly opens the sheath
  • The Piper arrives on a boat while this is happening
    • There are a bunch of rodents, spellcasters, and bards on it playing music for him while he dances like a madman
  • Roz secretly Messages him the message from Asmodeus
    • “Thank you good sir. I’m off to find a dragon”
  • They leave
  • Theodore opens the book and Yharov puts the dagger from the book inside
    • We finally find out it is called The Stoneheart
      • One of most powerful of the 12 Artifacts
      • Gives the user paralyzing magic and siphoning magic anywhere within 30 feet of the user
        • It siphons the magic of people around
  • The next item we see inside are Two Circular Earrings

Thompson’s death

Back on Ferrar’s Airship

  • Theratina and Barbara are hanging out painting together
  • Yharov walks over and gives her the Coin of The Unknown
    • Recall, Thompson tried to give it to her and he took it for fear of what it is
      • We don’t know what it is, but presumably it’s safe now that Thompson is dead
  • Theratina makes an intelligence saving throw and fails
  • She takes the coin and flips it to the side that says “call to me”
    • She says “hello?”
  • She disintegrates into a pile of goo and the coin drops where she was
  • Theodore sees the magic was conjuration and abjuration
  • It brought her somewhere else and swapped her with the goo
    • The goo is where she went
  • Yharov, then Roz, then everyone else grab the coin and call to it

At The Dimensional Blue Arena

Back on Ferrar’s Airship (again)

  • Because Avenj died within “The Locks” at the hand of The Unknown he rolls a d100
    • He gets a 21
  • Roz attempts to cast Revivify on him

In heaven

  • Meanwhile, Avenj is in some heavenly plane
  • A creature with thousands of eyes is there, and says “Hello, Avenj”
  • “Your friends are trying to give you a second chance”
    • “Something is stopping them. That something is you”
    • “What do you truly seek in life?”
  • He responds, “I guess I just didn’t want to be a failure?”
  • “Do you think you were?”
  • “Yeah, yeah.”
  • “What would you do for a second chance? You try to call your self a machine but you and i both know you are far more”
  • “Well, I don’t really know what I would do. I would just do my best”
  • “Well, you have prayed to no god. You have done little within your freedom of life that earns you any favors. But there is one Cleric that screams your name. I give you simply a choice: to fight The Unknown takes power from me.”
    • He offers him a 50/50 chance. If he chooses correctly, he goes back to life.
    • If he chooses incorrectly, he stays in heaven
  • He chooses red

Back on the ship

  • Yharov holds Avenj’s body and asks “the darkness that always scared him” for a favor
    • “Bring him back”
  • “I cannot bring him back, but… I can replace him”
  • “What do you mean?”
  • “The curse that has been done to swap vessels. You may choose to take his place”
  • Roz attempts to volunteer to be the one to swap
  • The deity Yharov is speaking to casts Speak with Dead
    • We ask him some questions regarding swapping etc
  • Theratina puts both Yharov and Roz to sleep
  • She apologizes
  • Avenj tells us not to let Council of the Cold Veil get the notebook with a sleeping face on its cover
  • Avenj’s spirit departs
  • We have a memorial for him
  • Theratina says to Yharov:
    • “I saw a darkness coming out of a frozen island. Today we saw that darkness and i saw you fighting it. Whatever that coin is (and her voice goes demonic again): I want to fucking kill it! I want it dead!”
  • We level up, take a long rest, and end the session there
