Description
The war that made King Caelen Thorne the Human King of the Elves, told in The Human King of the Elves and Crown of Thorns, Crown of Ash. When the old elven king of Vel Rau’dan died, Thalan’dor marched to take the throne, led by Prince Vaereth, who had wanted to marry the king’s daughter Aelira. She chose Caelen instead, a human knight from Brackenmill. Caelen killed Vaereth in battle and Thalan’dor was pushed back.
What we know
- The official story says Caelen ended the war “with words instead of blades”; Vaereth’s war journal says otherwise
- Per the children’s book, the old king got his power from a deal with a witch for his firstborn, and fell to her curse when Aelira turned eighteen
- Its scars still run deep in the Vel’Therin Expanse
